A strange Russian motorcycle that floats, and breaks down to fit in your car. Looks like fun !

New Adventures to be had

by on Feb.27, 2014, under Motorcycle, News, Personal

After lots of changes in my personal life and an obscenely cold winter things are finally starting to warm up and I’m getting excited to get out there and explore new places this summer. With my position at work I’m able to work a compressed schedule and have every other weekend as a 3 day long weekend allowing me to go farther and see more without having to take vacation days. I’ve been pouring over Google maps looking for new places to visit and exciting new routes to visit places that I’d like to go to again. I have little winter maintenance to do on my motorcycle other that wiring up my new GPS unit and putting on some new rubber. That process should start as the temperatures in the garage climb and funds allow me to buy some new tires.

This year I’m hoping to do a “Big Trip” somewhere. I haven’t decided between East or West coast or heading south to do the Blue Ridge parkway and the Tail of the Dragon. I am even considering attending some Horizon’s Unlimited meetings as far away as Colorado!  I’ve also been thinking about hiking either the Long Trail or the Rideau Trail which will get me in the woods for between 1 and 4 weeks.

Either way there are adventures to be had and I’m going to have them. See you out there !

Hiking Day Part 2

by on Feb.25, 2013, under Personal

After hiking back up the Bright Angel trail we regrouped and started walking along then rim trail. From here we had fantastic views of the canyon.

While hiking the trail we also happened across a bunch of local wildlife.

Unfortunately the shuttle bus was not running as it was the off season so we turned around half way along the rim and went back to grab the car. From there we drove to the end where we could hike the first part of the Hermit trail for some new views of the canyon.

All in all an excellent hay of hiking.

At the end of the day a storm blew in and the winds picked up bring clouds that really obscured our views.

In the end we had an amazing day outside!

Hiking Day

by on Feb.25, 2013, under Personal

Today is our day to hike. Our original plan was to hike down the Bright Angel Trail but from our experiences the previous day we were concerned that it was going to be too slippery.

The first part of the trail was a gentle incline then it came to a part that was sunny so all the snow had melted. This gave us the confidence we needed to continue on.

Beaver and Moosie came along as well.

Looking back to where we started.

Eventually we came to a series of switchbacks that were to steep to do without additional traction so we played it safe and turned around.
Instead of giving up we decided to hike some of the other trails such as the Rim trail and the start of the Hermit trail.
