After lots of changes in my personal life and an obscenely cold winter things are finally starting to warm up and I’m getting excited to get out there and explore new places this summer. With my position at work I’m able to work a compressed schedule and have every other weekend as a 3 day long weekend allowing me to go farther and see more without having to take vacation days. I’ve been pouring over Google maps looking for new places to visit and exciting new routes to visit places that I’d like to go to again. I have little winter maintenance to do on my motorcycle other that wiring up my new GPS unit and putting on some new rubber. That process should start as the temperatures in the garage climb and funds allow me to buy some new tires.
This year I’m hoping to do a “Big Trip” somewhere. I haven’t decided between East or West coast or heading south to do the Blue Ridge parkway and the Tail of the Dragon. I am even considering attending some Horizon’s Unlimited meetings as far away as Colorado! I’ve also been thinking about hiking either the Long Trail or the Rideau Trail which will get me in the woods for between 1 and 4 weeks.
Either way there are adventures to be had and I’m going to have them. See you out there !
During a recent stop at Mountain Equipment Coop here in Ottawa I was looking for some of my usual Gatorade for the trail when I stumbled across an innovative new energy drink. Nuun is a small tablet that quickly dissolves in water to give a slight flavour and a dose of electrolytes to help your body perform better during physical activity.
Nunn drink tabs
Each tab has zero sugar and adds a paltry 8 calories to you drink. The flavours range from a subtle tea flavour (with added caffeine) through a slight lime flavour to light berry melody. None of the tabs have overwhelming flavour but add just enough to make you want to drink more than you would if you were drinking just plain water.
At approximatly the size of a few quarters stacked up the tiny tablets are extremely light and much easier to add to your drink than traditional powdered drink mixes. Also due to the lack of tonnes of added sugar the 12 tab tube is extremely small and light to keep you pack weight down when camping. These have quickly become the drink of choice when hiking or when rehydrating after a long bike ride.
I swung by the fire on Monk St. after dropping Jane at work this morning and snapped a few photos. Sounds like it was something electrical.

Went for a nice ride today. Visited Jane at work. Not much slush on the road this evening. Looks like the city did a decent job of cleaning for once.
